Know the Risks
The first step of preparedness is to know the risks in your area. There are a variety of risks and hazards in Canada and in Nova Scotia. Being prepared allows you to know what to do when an emergency arises.
In 2015, REMO completed a hazard risk assessment and identified the most common hazards in Lunenburg County. This is not an exhaustive list and even though a risk may not be listed here, it could present itself at any time. An all-hazard approach considers being prepared for any type of emergency as many aspects of a response are similar, thus allowing you to prepare once.
Emergencies can happen anywhere, any time and with little time to react. Some are seasonal risks while others occur without warning.
